Subtype N9 neuraminidase ~0.6 mm crystals of influenza A isolated from a Noddy Tern (bird) on the Great Barrier Reef

Total Crystallography: Structure and dynamics of polycrystals (TotalCryst) was originally an  EU Sixth Framework Programme project running in the period Februar 1, 2006 to August 1, 2009. The aim was to generalise the concept of X-ray diffraction to enable crystallographic structure solution and refinements of arbitrary polycrystalline samples. The resulting method determines the molecular arrangement within each grain. It applies to simple inorganic structures as well as to large macromolecules. While applicable e.g. within materials science and geophysics the focus in the EU project was on studies in pharmacy, structural biology and photochemistry. The outcome is summarized in science above and in a summary article.

A main outcome of the project was version 1 and 2 of the software framework FABLE. Work on FABLE is continuing. All interested parties are welcome to participate
